dōTERRA Wintergreen is taken from the rural mountains of Nepal. In my opinion, dōTERRA Wintergreen has a softer smell than other Wintergreen oils, yet, it is even more therapeutic.
Wintergreen is found in the dōTERRA Deep Blue® Soothing Blend. Wintergreen leaves has a very small yield of essential oils.
BODY
I grew up using Chinese medicated oils that were bright green or bright red. I used it reluctantly disrespecting the traditions of our ancestors who relied on plant medicine. With all the research and learning that I’ve done, I’ve realized, that intuitively people from all over the world knew what was best for their body. I’ve since appreciated essential oils and their powerful therapeutic properties. The most common way I use Wintergreen is for massaging muscles. You can use it NEAT but it’s best to be diluted a little for better absorption and deeper penetration.
Massage Muscles & Joints: Wintergreen can be used alone or mixed with other essential oils to massage muscles and joints. It is best to dilute it a little with Fractionated Coconut oil. Great oils to mix with Blue Tansy, Copaiba, Helichrysum, Siberian Fir, Cypress and Peppermint. You may also want to mix Wintergreen in with the dōTERRA hand & body lotion and make a joint & rheumatism cream for your body.
Bone Spurs & Cartilage: Blend 5 drops Wintergreen, 4 drops Cypress, 3 drops Helichrysum, 3 drops Siberian Fir, and 2 drops Peppermint. Dilute it a little with Fractionated Coconut oil and apply to area 3-4 times a day.1
Frozen Shoulders & Stiff Knees: Dilute it a little with Fractionated Coconut oil and mix with Siberian Fir. Rub over affected area 2-3 times a day.
Teeth Whitening: Add 1-2 drops Wintergreen oil to baking soda and brush teeth. Add 1 drop Birch oil if you have it. I like to do oil pulling with these two oils to help not only whiten teeth but maintain a healthy gums and mouth.
Sprains: Mix 5 drops Wintergreen, 4 drops Lemongrass, 4 drop Siberian Fir, 6 drops Cypress. Dilute it a little with Fractionated Coconut oil and apply to area 3-4 times a day.2
Cramps & Charley Horses: Dilute Wintergreen oil with a little with Fractionated Coconut oil and massage area. Consider adding Cypress & Bergamot oil to your mixture too. Drink water mixed with Lemon & Peppermint oil.
MS Nerve Support: Blend 4 drops Wintergreen, 4 drops Frankincense, 3 drops Sandalwood, 3 drops Thyme, 2 drops Peppermint in 1 tablespoon of Fractionated Coconut oil. Massage this blend on the back of the neck and on the bottom of the feet morning and night. This blend helps enhance communication and sooth the nerves for those dealing with MS.3
Urinary Tract & Bladder: Dilute 1-2 drops Wintergreen, 1-2drops of Geranium oil with a little with Fractionated Coconut oil massage on lower abdomen for urinary tract & bladder support. Add a hot pack over the top of abdomen.

Wintergreen is the Oil of Surrendering Your Will. According to the Emotions & Essential Oils, the negative emotions Wintergreen oil helps to shift are as follows: controlling, willful, needing to be right, burdened, and excessive self-reliance.
The positive properties we can incorporate are the following: surrender, relying on divine grace, non-attachment, teachable, and strengthened.
We have been taught to be independent and self-reliant. This is a fantastic virtue. The problem is sometimes, we take this virtue too far and refuse to let allow God and other people to help us. We are afraid our value will be weakened somehow. Our self worth has been built on accomplishments by our own hand. Wintergreen invites us to balance this virtue and allow others to give while you take your turn to receive.
A more excellent way of being is to be interdependent. This is when individuals work collaboratively with others with healthy trust and respect. We all have weaknesses and strengths. When we lean on each other’s strengths then we can achieve great things. Alone, our achievements are limited. We work more intelligently when we can leverage one another’s strengths to achieve a greater goal. Wintergreen allows you to still feel valuable even when the credit of accomplishment is not all yours.
Surrender & Letting Go Of Control: Dilute and massage Wintergreen, Sandalwood, and Balance on the bottom of feet. Then soak in a warm bath with epsom salt. Inhale the scent and think of letting go of the need to control and any irritation with self and others.
I share this technique with those who are detoxing and find that they are detoxing through their skin. This helps them detox through bowel movements and urine more. When people start detoxing the right direction, their skin clears up and organs starts working as they should.

“Wintergreen helps teach that one can turn their hardships over to that power greater than themselves, so they do not have to carry the burden of life all alone.” (Emotions & Essential oils, Enlighten 6th edition)
This oil reminds me of a scripture in Proverbs. We may think we know, but it is better to connect to God for His wisdom.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
Surrendering To The Divine: Smell Wintergreen and allow your heart to relax and feel safe. Picture your burdens removed from your sh
oulders and placed on the alter. Allow angels to help carry all the burdens you believe are your responsibility alone.
I allow God and angels to carry my burdens.
I am relaxed and can let go of control.
A few years ago, my knees started hurting one morning. I knew that knee problems are about stubbornness or inflexibility. I muscle tested and Wintergreen oil came up. So I connected the dots and asked myself, “Do I need to surrender my will and be flexible about something?” At that time, my husband was working in a small country town as a Lawyer. I didn’t want to go. I was happy being in Sydney with my family. So I muscle tested to see if it was that I needed to be flexible and move. It was!
I rubbed the Wintergreen oil on my knees, and decided I would surrender. Then my knees stopped hurting. That decision turned out to be awesome for me and my family. Many wonderful things came of that decision. I have made friends there, who I will treasure for life. I grew and changed exponentially during the time I lived in the country.
