Tangerine has a long history of use in Chinese culture and herbal health practices. The essential oil supports healthy digestion and metabolism.* Tangerine has a sweet, tangy aroma, similar to other citrus oils, that is uplifting. Tangerine is known for its cleansing properties, for supporting a healthy immune and respiratory system.
Tangerine essential oil can be used to help soothe anxious feelings and manage stress. Tangerine is a popular and flavorful addition to desserts and drinks. Anytime a citrus flavor is needed, Tangerine can be substituted. Tangerine is very special. It has almost 80% d-Limonene. d-Limonene has been found to be cancer-preventative in vitro and in human mammary cells.1
Tangerine mixes well with other citrus oils, Lime, Ylang Ylang, Basil, Cheer
dōTERRA oils containing Tangerine oil are: Citrus Bliss, Elevation, Zendocrine
As with most citrus oils from dōTERRA, Tangerine is cold pressed. Therefore, be careful of photosensitivity. The furocoumarines (FCs), an essential oil constituent in certain essential oils reacts when exposed to ultraviolet light. Inflammation, blistering and reddening/burning of the skin are common when furocoumarines is exposed to UV light. Be careful when using this oil topically. Do not expose skin to direct sunlight or ultraviolet light for at least 12 hours. You may safely diffuse Tangerine and take it internally.

Food & Drink Flavoring: Add 1-2 drops in water, smoothies, teas, dressing, desserts and savory dishes.
Boost Immunity: Add a few drops to water or veggie capsule and take internally.2
Sleep & Relaxation: Diffuse a few drops at bedtime. Tangerine, like Wild Orange is calming and relaxing to the mind and body.
Energy: Add a few drops to water or veggie capsule and take internally. Diffuse alone or with your favorite oils. When your gut is clean of fungus and other invaders (parasites, bad bacteria etc.) your body is more able to absorb nutrients from food and drink.
Digestion & Metabolism: Add a few drops to water or veggie capsule, take internally and rub a few drops on the abdomen. Consider mixing with other oils such as other citrus oils and herb oils oils such as peppermint. Tangerine also goes into the cells and helps cell release fat and toxins.
Easy Breathing: Diffuse and inhale Tangerine oil to help open airways. Consider combining with the respiratory blend.
Cleansing: Use alone or with other oils to help cleanse gut and organs. Tangerine has powerful antioxidant properties. Add 2 drops of Tangerine oil to water and swish for a tasty mouthwash. Tangerine can be added to homemade surface cleaners to help cleanse surface of environmental threats.345
Occasional Coughs & Congestion: Add a few drops to water or veggie capsule, take internally. Mix with Eucalyptus and rub on chest.
Circulation: Apply and massage Tangerine the bottom of feet to help alleviate water retention.
Gas: Add a few drops to water or veggie capsule, take internally. Tangerine calms the digestive system and soothes metabolism.

Tangerine has a powerful ability to cheer up people who are in darkness. When we feel over worked and overburdened by responsibilities it is often because we have let ourselves be wound up and caught up with ‘stuff.’ We list out all the jobs, tasks, burdens and responsibilities we have and can’t see our way out.
May I make a few suggestions to help with this situation?
- Smell Tangerine oil and step back. Be still for a few minutes.
- This is an opportunity for you to refocus. Start by writing down all your ‘responsibilities’ and burdens.
- Look at eat of these items and ask yourself why? Keep drawing an arrow to the next thing and you’ll find that the root of all these problems are fearful emotions. These fearful emotions can be overcome by choosing faith-based emotions.
- Faith-based emotions are based on thoughts and beliefs. Using your creative powers, find some solutions. Tangerine oil helps you imagine and see good things with a grateful cheerful heart. Do self reflection exercises to help you correct false beliefs and limiting thoughts. Sometimes we take a virtue too far and it becomes a vice. Working hard is good but no resting and not enjoying life because you work too much is a vice. Being busy is good because we can be ‘anxiously engaged in a good cause’ but when we need to be busy to feel self-importance it is a vice because we are not focused on a good intention. Sometimes we have subconsciously defined our life according to the definitions of society. People tell me, “Oh you have four kids and a business, you must be stressed.” As if having children or a business must mean I am stressed. You can I can creatively decided on joy and happiness. My business and my children gives me passion and purpose for life.
Cheer & Joyfulness: Tangerine is one of the oils in Elevation Joyful Blend. Diffuse throughout the day. Add to diffuser necklace if you are out and about.

There is a good side of everything. It is easy to be grateful for the obvious things but it is harder to be grateful for trials and lack. The more grateful we are for things the more good things will come to us. We can all do better in this area.

Changing at the spiritual level simply means we CHOOSE and envision our life differently. When we choose joy and happiness, we also need to CHOOSE to let go of negative thoughts.
Like gardening, when we’ve removed the weeds and cleared out the flower bed, we can’t just leave it blank. If we leave it unattended, other weeds and unwanted plants come along and take over that space. We must intentionally choose what we want to occupy that space. Our lives here on earth is meant for abundance of joy. Decide what will make you abundantly joyful. Many of us haven’t thought about it. We have been busy and caught up complaining about what we don’t want. Smell Tangerine and decide now all the things you want and simply focus your energy on that.

Tangerine reminds us that we don’t have to be burdensome and a martyr. You too are allowed to have peace and joy like everyone else. This is your right so step up to ‘the plate’ and receive it. No more excuses or blame. If you are unhappy now then choose now to be happy. Define happiness and contentment. Remember happiness isn’t perfection. Choose to create your version of Heaven on earth.
