How to Make Lasting Change?
We all want to progress, succeed faster and sometimes it feels like we aren’t changing as fast as we would like. It’s frustrating isn’t it. Why is that? It is because we are trying to change things on the surface. If you think of a tree. It is like you are trying to change the health if the tree by painting the leaves and fruits. It will look different but it hasn’t really changed at the root.
My husband likes to tell me to, “go slow to go fast!” I didn’t know what he was talking about at first. Now I know and I am excited to share with everyone.
In order to have wonderful, lasting results, whether you want better health, a more successful business, a better relationship with your spouse, friends, or kids, you actually don’t have to work harder. That is not the solution. Most of us work hard enough. In fact, we only self sabotage further by working harder and being busier. Mastering this skill that I am about to share with you alleviates so many stresses and helps you make real lasting change!
Work smarter by tapping into your thoughts and beliefs which is where your feelings, actions, and result stem. You will get better results faster by doing less because you worked more on your mindset. How do you do that?
To me working on mindset is working on your thoughts and beliefs. Most of the time, it is difficult to identify exactly what it is that we are really thinking and believing because of the lack of self awareness. The feelings that we get are the best clues to help us tap into the mindset from which we are operating. The more we recognize that the feelings and actions are a result of our thoughts and beliefs, the more self-aware we can become.
Beliefs are paradigms anchored in your heart. Thoughts are rationalizations in your head. As soon as you can ‘transplant’ your thoughts and beliefs into a more supportive ‘fertile soil’ then your positive feelings, inspired actions, and news results will naturally flow from that change. The key is to always plant yourself in the right soil, to me, it is always a reconnection to God and His power.
Here is an example for you.
Loosing Weight Example
Many years ago, after I had my first child, I thought that my body will never be able to look like it did before ever again. In my head, I hear the words of other older women and the messages of society say, ‘when you have kids, you sacrifice your body.’ I started to believed that on some levels even though I wish I could have motherhood, a nice body and a happy life too.
My belief was:
- Mothers sacrifice their all and loose themselves
- Good mothers live for their children
- Motherhood is hard
- Mothers don’t have fun
These beliefs led these thoughts:
- I can’t do much to change. Whatever I do would not take time away from my kids
- I don’t have time to exercise and make healthy meals
- There is too much work
The thoughts led to these feelings:
- Stressed because I can’t get on top of everything let alone have any fun
- Anxiety because I sacrifice and don’t know if that sacrifice is good enough
- Unappreciated (I’m suppose to loose myself)
- Guilty when I take breaks because I could be doing something for the family
These feelings led to actions such as:
- Not eating as well as I could
- Not dressing well. No make up. Wearing baggy, too sensible, boring, cheap, comfy clothes.
- Not exercising
- Not sleeping
- Not researching and studying to find solutions
- Doing too much work and creating more work all of the time and not resting
The result of those actions:
- Stress-out family
- Unhappy family
- Depression
- Ground hogs day
The more I tried to change my actions with sheer will power the more frustrated I got when I failed and the worse the results became. One day, I simply changed my beliefs. Here is how I changed and here were the results. Things fell into place.
My New belief:
- Mothers are co-partners with God.
- God will help me with my kids.
- Motherhood is fun and exciting.
- Mothers can be the example of fun and happiness.
- My body can be healthy and beautiful.
These beliefs led these thoughts:
- I CAN show my children what happy looks like when I balance my life
- I can make time for workouts and healthy eating
- There is plenty of time to do what I need to do because we have divine help.
The thoughts led to these feelings:
- Excited because I can get on top of everything one thing at a time
- Balanced and grounded because I have an identity and are not required to sacrifice everything
- Fulfilled, accomplished, successful because I can do things for me too
These feelings led to actions such as:
- Time block. I made time to be still, meditate and journal.
- Make plans, set goals and execute my plans
- Dress better. Use make up again. Wear quality, fitting, new clothes
- Exercise more
- Sleeping more
- Studying and researching to find more ideas and solutions
The result of those actions:
- Healthy body and healthy weight
- Happy family
- Calm and relaxed family
- Progression
- Rewarding career & family balance
I naturally lost weight because I let go of the beliefs and thoughts that weighed me down. You can do this activity with other things too.
Correct your beliefs about business, parenting, health, finances, spirituality and relationships. So look at the results in your life, identify your feelings and actions and go deep into your thoughts and beliefs then change at that root level.
