I am a recovering perfectionist. We can strive to be ambitious and perfecting ourselves but we shouldn’t be a perfectionist. Perfectionism is destructive in so many ways. Let’s get out of this unsupportive habit.
- Choose to intentionally be happy & grateful now on the journey of progression (Isa 29:19, Nephi 2:25)
- Allow God to define success and perfection (D&C 76:69, 3 Ne 9:20, Isaiah 55:8-9, Moroni 7:15-17)
- Trust in divine love and grace. Be pulled by love not pushed by fear (John 3:16, Mosiah 4:6-7)
- Allow God to bless you freely. Be receptive to what God offers you. (2 Nephi 26:25, Matthew 6:34)
- Allow the infinite power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ to compensate all. We can’t do it alone. Only through and with Christ can we be made perfect. (Deut 18:13, Moroni 10:32, 2 Nephi 2:26)
- Allow God to define what is right for you and others in your current situation. (Matthew 6:28)
- Make peace with your humanity by having unconditional love for yourself and others. Be forgiving. Not holding others up to your own standards. (Matthew 22:37-40, Mosiah 23:15, James 2:8, Leviticus 19:18)
- Do all things in the right divine time and season according to God’s will. (Isaiah 50:4, D&C 59:18)
- Relax and rejoice in the opportunities for repentance leading to refinement. It is ok to make mistakes. The Lord loves a repentant heart. (Luke 15:7, Acts 17:30, 2 Corinthians 7:10)
- Don’t compare or compete with others. Be at peace with your unique path. (Matthew 6:8, John 16:33)
- Learn from mistakes. It helps us have compassion. Compassion creates charity. Without charity, the pure love of God, we have nothing. (Moroni 7:47, 1 Timothy 1:5, 2 Nephi 26:30, D&C 121:45)
