60 to 70 million people in the USA are affected by all digestive diseases.1 That’s a lot of people with gut issues!! The gut refers to the gastrointestinal tract which is a group of organs in the digestive system. This system takes in food, digests it to extract and absorb energy and nutrients, and expels the remaining waste as feces. There are a lot of names for digestive diseases: Abdominal Wall Hernia, Chronic Constipation, Diverticular Disease, Gallstones, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Gastrointestinal Infections, Hemorrhoids, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Liver Disease, Peptic Ulcer Disease, and Viral Hepatitis.2
In my opinion, we shouldn’t get too caught up in the specific names of the gut problems because it all seems to basically lead to a common need to clean out the gut, feed the cells and repair gut tissues. Our body knows how to heal itself when we give it the right tools such as essential oils, nutritionally dense foods and drink and rest.
I like to look at everything on a deeper root level. Nobody sets out intentionally to be sick, right? Everyone wants to look good and feel good right? But why don’t we take care of ourselves the way we ought to all of the time? We have gut problems because we eat poorly. Why do we choose to eat poorly when we know what is healthy? Well, we make decisions based on feelings and those feelings come from thoughts (conscious and subconscious), and those thoughts originate from beliefs (conscious and subconscious). We are creatures of habit, reacting to our emotions.
So doesn’t it make sense then to firstly realign ourselves spiritually so that our beliefs are set in a positive supportive state? When our thoughts are positive and powerful, we FEEL great. When we feel great, we want to eat better. And that elusive ‘will power’ works for us instead of against us. If we keep that spiritual alignment up, we create new habits that creates success.
Why is Gut Health so important?
“All disease begins in the gut.” -Hippocrates
Here are some reasons:
- Brain Function & Information Processing3
- Mood & Emotions4
- Energy & Vitality
- Absorption of Nutrition
- Immunity Health
- Weight Management
BODY – Physically
I believe you can heal your gut. Your gut has more brain chemicals than your brain does. These gut neurotransmitters can be compromised when our gut is sick. This means you may find information processing to be difficult. You may have a hard time remembering and retaining information, in short you may say you have, ‘brain fog.’ This is true for all people no matter what age. All this information is relevant to children as well. Children with learning difficulties often are the same children with food intolerances.
When we stress, overthink and ‘live in our heads too much’ our energy is redirected away from our gut to our brain. This means gut activity slows down causing fermentation and overgrowth of bad bacteria, fungus and parasites in our gut. The gut is meant to absorb and digest the nutrients from food and supplements and eliminate efficiently. The gut can’t do it’s job when the energy focus isn’t given to it.
Overtime this ‘gut rot’ will lead to all kinds of gut problems. These gut problems have labels such those listed above (IBS, Crohns, Colitis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and the names just go on depending on the specific types of symptoms.) When we clean out our gut and share the energy with gut, the regular functions return and great health and vitality is re-established. A healthy gut will help you have clearer thinking, more energy, healthier weight and better mood.5
#1 Cleanse & Restore your Gut
Ready to change? What to do first? I recommend the doTERRA 30-day cleanse and restore kit. It has the basic tools to start cleansing organs and the gut. Click here to learn more about the cleanse program.
Brain function & processing (Clearing the debris)
Heavy metal toxins and other chemical toxins in our brain from food, medications and other environmental toxins causes the receptors of our gut to be blocked leading to reduced or disrupted communications between our cells. Cellular miscommunication leads to imbalances in chemicals and electrical impulses causing health problems.
‘Chemo brain’ is a common complaint for those who have gone through serious drug treatment. This is a state where people have sudden forgetfulness and/or processing difficulties. The debris from the drugs are often still in your system interfering with cellular function. Your body is very good at managing toxins. It usually stores excess toxins in your fat cells to protect you when it can’t eliminate effectively and efficiently enough through your feces, urine, and sweat. The small molecular size of essential oils makes it able to pass through cell membranes easily to assist the cells in opening up releasing toxins it has stored.
Suggested oils to use that is great for the gut and brain for this situation are: Lemon, Wild Orange and Cardamom. Use aromatically, internally and apply diluted on our tummy.
Cleansing your gut will boost your immunity. When the gut is cleansed it will be able to focus on producing seratonin and other feel good chemicals for your health and well being.
What are the essential oils that help with the gut?
As a rule of thumb, use food oils such as herbal & citrus oils for your gut.
Herbs: Anise, Basil, Black Pepper, Cardamom, Cassia, Cilantro, Cinnamon, Clove, Coriander, Dill, Fennel, Lemongrass, Marjoram, Melissa, Oregano, Peppermint, Rosemary, Spearmint, Thyme, Turmeric6 7
Citrus: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Green Mandarin, Lemon, Lime, Red Mandarin, Tangerine, Wild Orange
Others: Ginger, Pink Pepper
Take the herbals internally (usually a few drops in a veggie capsule) 2-3 times a day. Apply on the bottom of your feet in the middle where the gut reflex points are.
For the citrus oils, just add to your glass water bottle (citrus oils breaks down plastic) and sip throughout the day. You’ll find that you’ll be eliminating more (urinating and more bowel movements). You may even loose weight.
Did you know that when candida fungus in the gut has overgrown, it grows tails and leaves the gut and travels to other parts of the body causing inflammation? The best way to buy these oils is to get a wholesale account and purchase it at a great price. Click on the button below.
Healthy bacteria is very important to the gut. Once you’ve cleansed the gut, make sure you feed the gut with high quality multi-strain pro-biotic to assist the gut functions. Think of the probiotics as a shield creator for your gut. It protects and boosts your immunity.
A healthy DIET is fundamental. Everyone’s body is different. Even raw healthy foods can agitate a raw sick gut. As your gut issues become calmer and less inflamed, make some observations of what foods your gut likes and responds well to. I like to eat local, whole foods that my body asks for. Sometimes the fad diets and the super food hypes makes us feel inadequate as if a healthy diet is only achievable for those highly sophisticated intelligent gurus. I like to trust my body and take note of how it responds as I introduce new foods. There are many native communities around the world who live a peaceful healthy long life eating the foods from their nativity.8
MIND
#2 Manage the Mind
What we think creates our reality. If our reality isn’t ideal right now, then let’s change your thinking. Our thoughts create emotions. EMOTIONS trigger peptides (information-carrying molecules) that bind to and react with cell receptors. Our cells then trigger physical responses in our body.
Our gut is literally about taking things in, filtering, assimilating, digesting, creating and eliminating.
So what is happening in the mind that eventually leads to gut issues? In general, it is not being able to fully filter, assimilate, digest, create and eliminate aspects of life. Some core fear based beliefs such as fear of not being safe, feeling unhappy, lacking power, and not being self aware may be the root of these thoughts of not being able to fully filter, assimilate, digest, create and eliminate aspects of life.
Stomach problems (according to Karol Truman in Feelings Buried Alive Never Die book):
- Our sense of security feels threatened
- Fears new ideas
- Lack of affection
- Condemning the success of other people
- Unhappy feelings
Now that we know this, we can choose to live life more intentionally and change our thinking. Let’s choose what we do want and focus on those supportive positive thoughts and fully let go of the unsupportive negative patterns. Here are some suggestions of new positive affirmations to replace old unsupportive ideas:
I am powerful and can create my world
I honor myself
I am safe
I choose to be happy
I love myself and I am loved
I choose goodness, light, and love
I am enough
I am relaxed and light (not weighted down)
I digest life as it comes and let go of things I don’t need easily & quickly
SPIRIT
#3 Realign your Spirit
Your physical & mental health will help you gauge your spiritual health. The gut is your power zones the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Chakra. The ancient people have given us this powerful knowledge. The 1st chakra is about security, safety, survival, belonging. 2nd chakra is about sensuality, sexuality, relationships, emotions, intimacy, creativity, work and money. The 3rd charka is about your willpower, ambition, and action.
Reflect on life for a minute. Have you been fearful, self-sabotaging, self-doubting, unable to create the money and close relationships you desire?
I like to journal as a way to self reflect. I ask myself questions and resolve one aspect at a time with the help of essential oils I rewrite my beliefs. Keep doing personal development education too. Seek to change these lower chakras before you can move to the higher chakras. Know people who are stuck in this immaturity?
People with gut problems tries to seek power from their own strength and energy only to feel drained quickly. Your real power source is from God. When we are connected to God we have a never-ending source of spiritual power to act and create. You are a child of God. A child of God can be filled with faith and power to create his/her world.
Hand over the insecurities, worries, need for control to the divine powers. Be clear on what you can control and honor your power to choose.
Resolve childhood traumas and events. Choose to be at peace with your life and journey. Allow that inner child to be safe and free. I know that as you change on this level, your gut health will improve and even heal.
Hope this helps you see gut health in a clearer more complete way! It has helped my gut tremendously.
