I love Clove oil’s ability to clean out cell receptors. Clean and healthy cells are able to communicate more efficiently and effectively to help our body function more optimally.
dōTERRA’s Clove oil is special. Clove oil is steam distilled from the bud. On this page, I’m going to refer to Clove Bud essential oil as just Clove oil. I just want you to remember that it is different — the essential oil I’m talking about here comes from clove bud.
Clove has been used for years in dental preparations, candy, and chewing gum for its flavor and ability to cleanse the mouth, yet it provides a myriad of other benefits. Its main chemical component, Eugenol, makes it a very stimulating and energizing essential oil which can be used as a warming massage oil. Clove contains powerful antioxidant properties and supports cardiovascular health when taken internally.*
As a cooking spice, Clove oil adds a spicy flavor to any dish or dessert while providing internal health benefits.*
BODY
Gum support: One drop on toothpaste can help clean the teeth and gums while promoting fresh breath.
Oil Pulling: Add 1-2 drops of Clove oil to 1 tablespoon of Virgin Coconut oil for oil pulling in the morning.
Oil Pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing gently 1-2 tablespoon of oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for around 10-20 minutes. Spit the oil out when you are done. This technique is said to draw toxins out of your body, improve oral health, and to improve your overall health in many ways. This is also one way to protect your teeth from cavities.
Toothaches: Clove oil is the first choice for toothache! Second choice is On Guard oil. Put a few drops straight on the area of concern or add Clove to a cotton swab then put the cotton in the area. Clove has a numbing ability.
Teething: Dilute Clove oil with Fractionated Coconut Oil. Add 1-2 drops Clove oil to 1 teaspoon Fractionated Coconut Oil and rub on baby’s gums or on the jawline.
Immunity: Clove oil is one of the ingredients of On Guard Protective Essential Oil Blend. If you don’t like taking Oregano internally, take Clove oil instead of Oregano. Diffuse Clove Bud oil with other oils such as Cinnamon and Wild Orange to clean the air.
Long-term cold feet: Mix 3 drops Clove, 6 drops AromaTouch, 3 drops Lemon, and 3 drops Cypress essential oils. Apply to feet and ankles every three hours, wear warm cotton socks and drink lots of water. (Dr. Sue Lawton)
Antioxidants: Use Clove oil in one form or another daily. It is found in the Lifelong Vitality Pack, DDR Prime Blend, and On Guard Protective Blend.
Antioxidants are ‘good cleaners’ that search out and pair up with unpaired (free radicals) electrons running rampant in your body causing havoc. Below is a comparison of ORAC value (antioxidant score) of some essential oil. You can see that Clove Bud Oil is the highest!
The Highest Sources of Antioxidants (ORAC Scores):
- 1,655 Sandalwood
- 3,309 Rosemary
- 7,700 Black Berry
- 25,000 Goji Berry
- 103,448 Cinnamon Bark
- 10,786,875 Clove Bud Oil

An ounce of Clove Bud Oil has the antioxidant capacity of 450 pounds of carrots, 120 quarts of blueberries or 48 gallons of beet juice. Antioxidants have many health benefits.

MIND
Clove oil The Oil of Boundaries. According to the Emotions & Essential Oils, the negative emotions Clove oil helps to release are as follows: Confused, darkness, spiritually disconnected, hopeless, blocked creatity
The positive properties we can incorporate are the following: Spiritual clarity, intuitive, open-minded, imaginative, spiritually discerning
Creating healthy boundaries: Rub 1-2 drops of Clove oil & 1-2 drops of Melaleuca oil on the bottom of your feet. Say, “I have healthy boundaries.”
Clove oil supports individuals to let go of the victim mentality. These individuals often feel defeated, dominated, controlled, and enslaved by others. They perceive that they do not have power to stand up for themselves. Their fear of rejection comes from a lack of healthy personal boundaries. Essentially, they are rejecting themselves and see others rejecting them, too.
When these individuals understand who they are and develop a healthy self love, they become less intimidated by others. They begin to see safety and equality.
Clove oil cleanses cell receptors physically. At the same time, it mentally cleanses your mind, too. Even if you are junked up with self-defeating critical thinking, slowly and surely Clove oil can help you shift the toxins out.
Clove is powerful at repelling insects and environmental threats such as fungus. Remember fungus is an organism that is codependent. Fungi are scavengers, feeding off dead stuff — kind of like the buzzards you see cleaning up roadkill along the highway. Louise Hay says, “Fungus: Stagnating beliefs. Refusing to release the past. Letting the past rule today.” It is sort of like holding onto dead ideas and thoughts. So, if we release old ‘stuff’, mentally we will feel more power, and physically our body will cleanse itself of unwanted infections and scavengers.
The liver cleanses and filters the blood. The liver also stores anger, bitterness, frustration, and hatred. Clove can help remove all that negativity out.

Clove helps you spiritually create boundaries you are comfortable with. We are allowed and encouraged to connect to others. When you spend a lot of time with someone else, you need to disconnect sometimes from that person. Clove oil helps you identify what is yours and what is theirs by partitioning and temporally disconnecting.
Spend time alone to discover who you really are, what you really like, and what you don’t like. What are your passions? If you could do anything you want in the world without limitations, what would you do? If these are difficult questions, then you know this is an area you should spend some more time in.
When you’ve found your individual part in the Grand Plan of God, you no longer continue unhealthy, codependent relationships with others. You fully embrace who you are and refuse to be dominated by anyone else’s opinion or ideas. So you can be truly interdependent in your relationships with others.
Healthy boundaries help you develop a healthy self-love and personal integrity. As you begin to respect and accept yourself, you begin to own our own power. You recognize that you have the power to choose your life, your thoughts, and your responses.
Use Clove oil however you feel inspired to use it and spend time finding out who you are. Your understanding will evolve and become clearer the more time you focus on it.
*Note about ingesting oils: I only recommend the dōTERRA CPTG essential oils that are labeled for internal usage. I can not vouch for any other brand or grade.
