Do you trust in your heart?
You should. The heart is the seed of faith. We all want to have faith but honestly, it is hard to act on faith sometimes. What is sad, is some of us have deceived ourselves into thinking we have faith but really don’t. We think and act based on our own limited understanding instead of following the heart.
Faith is acting on some inspiration we feel in our heart without knowing all the details yet with the hope that it is right.
According to the apostle Paul,
“faith is the substance [assurance] of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” ~ Hebrews 11:1
In the book of Mormon, the prophet Alma said,
“If ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true” ~ Alma 32:21
Sometimes we have inspiration from God and other times the inspiration is NOT from God. How can we tell the difference? We can be reassured that our heart’s inspiration is good when we connect to our gut and feel that burning fire of action in our gut. It is from God, when you have ‘that gut feeling’ to take action, validating your heart’s promptings. When your gut is in knots and feels bad, then you know that your heart ‘inspiration’ was from a source other than God. We have a hard time letting the heart led because we are fearful. Fear and anxiety is not from God. Excitement and confidences is from God. Sometimes excitement is confused with anxiety.
After you align the heart and the gut, you need to take action. Move forward anyways, even if you are not perfectly prepared yet. Move forward even if you don’t know everything yet. Move forward even if you don’t have a perfect understanding yet, knowing full well you will probably make lots of mistakes along the way.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” ~ Proverbs 3:5
You won’t be able to know everything if you stand still. Understanding will come once you ‘open up’ and move forward. Understanding, light, and wisdom will come AFTER you move forward a little. Moving and acting physically shows you that you do have faith in God. The actions we take will be evidence of our surrendering our heart to God. Surrendering our heart is an action of connecting to God.
You will gain more and more knowledge until your knowledge is more complete as you move forward.
“24 That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.” ~ Doctrine and Covenants 50:24
When I was a teenager I learned a truth from a wonderful religious leader. He taught that teenagers, and all of us for matter, often want clear cut answers. We want to know if something is either black or white. True or false. The truth is that sometimes things are grey because it is relative. We are actually on a continuum ever changing and hopefully continually progressing. So when we find ourselves standing in the ‘grey place’, we need to use our power of choice to choose faith and to ACT.
God makes it easier for us to choose because we have a heart-compass within to guide us. That heart-compass is our instincts or the promptings of the Holy Ghost. We can confirm the source of that prompting by paying attention to how our gut responds. A good, excited gut response indicates that it is of God. When we step forward a little, we will find that our ‘grey’ will either grow brighter or darker. When we continue into the brighter direction we will receive more light and understanding. That strong knowledge and reassurance is evidence that we are coming closer to God and that we made the right decision.
On the other hand, when things get darker and more chaotic, then we will know that we are heading the wrong direction. We will know that we are acting willfully relying on our limited understanding. For many people, that dark and chaotic energy is reflected in our health. We become sicker and sicker. The resolution to all our health problems is ALWAYS a realignment to God. That realignment happens when we act in FAITH.
“Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.” ~ Luke 17:19
My friend, if you are experiencing too much stress, headaches, and anxiety, it is because you are relying too heavily on ‘your own understanding.’ Our understanding is very limited, and will not help us grow fast enough and in the right way. We are here on Earth to develop the power of faith. Faith is spiritual power. That power can heal us on all levels.
In Chinese medicine, they believe that all disease comes from the heart.1 According to the National Center for Health Statistics in the USA, in 2017, 24% of death in men and 21% of death in women are due to heart disease.2 What does that tell you about how much people trust in their hearts? A neglected heart gets sick and dies.
In conclusion, lead with the heart, confirm with the gut and receive incremental light and understanding in our brain after acting in faith. This is the correct order of alignment to God. Not the other way around. Do not lead with your head that is insanity.
