How does focusing on your noble purpose help me in my business?
When I first felt like I should do dōTERRA as a business, I freaked out a little. But then I thought that if God has asked me to do it,
- He would help me
- He knows I can do it, so who am I to doubt him
- If I were going to spend years of my life ‘working’ I might as well do something I like.
The more I thought about this, the more I felt that doing doTERRA as a business is a meaningful, fulfilling, and fun job. I started with a very little skills, knowledge, and self-confidence. What kept me going was the strong focus on my noble purpose.
A noble purpose is a calling from above. It is not something you make up. It is something that adds to humanity.
Focusing on your purpose:
- Helps you stay focus (not get distracted)
- Helps you be selfless
- Learn who you are as you loose yourself in service
- Feel free to make mistakes
- Endure difficult times
- Define success as helping people
- And love others
Focusing on your purpose helps keep your eyes, mind, and heart on your calling and not get distracted. We get distracted by our own self-imposed limitations, fears, and doubts.
This helps us get over ourself. It stops you from being self-fish. Selfish means focusing on yourself and raising yourself above others. Or you can focus on yourself and lower yourself below others such as when you are self-abusive and self-sabotaging.
Your purpose will reveal to you who you really are and what your role is in this grand scheme of things. Lose yourself in your work and you will find yourself. It reminds you that you don’t need to be like other people. Stick to your niche and serve with all your heart. It helps you honor others and allow others to shine and do their thing too.
Focusing on your purpose frees you up to make mistakes as you go on your journey even if you are leading and guiding people. Focusing on your purpose helps you endure hiccups along the way. At the beginning of your business, you may earn only a few dollars at first. It helps you not get discouraged because you are successful already! If you have helped a person in need then you have been successful because you’ve fulfilled your calling. Focusing on your purpose helps you see the big picture so that you can easily put people before profit. You will learn to be unified and work collaboratively with others as you serve God.
When you have the ability to enjoy fulfillment in your daily life, you are in a position to contribute time, energy, and resources in others as well.
What Is Your Purpose?
I like the Bible story of the Parable of the Talents found in Matt. 25:14–29. To summarize: Before a master went away, he left he called three of his servants to him. He gave one 5 talents, another 2 talents, and another 1 talent. While he was gone, the servants with the 5 and 2 talents doubled their talents. To both, the lord said unto them, ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.’ On the other hand, the servant with the one talent didn’t do anything but bury his talent in fear. Then the master said to him ‘Thou wicked and slothful servant’. He then took one talent and gave it to the servant who had 10.”
Definition of Talent: An ancient measure of weight or sum of money that was of great worth. It also serves as a symbol for something of great value.
What did I learn from this?
- Have faith
- Take a chance to magnify what you’ve been given (skills, knowledge, opportunities, money etc.)
- What you have is valuable and isn’t compared to anyone else
- Don’t be fearful
- Money is neutral. It neither makes you good or evil. It is what you do that is good or evil. It can be an enabler or a distractor.
I don’t know the value of what I have to give. I hope it is good. It is what I have, so I will faithfully magnify it for now. At least this effort has helped my children and me. If it helps one other life, then that is great value already.
Finding your purpose can be difficult at first but it will evolve. Our purpose is fulfilling our earthy calling. You will know when you find it when your heart burns with passion. Your mind is filled with ideas and your gut is energized.
Your purpose is really two parts:
1. Serving humanity in some way
2. Using your God-given talents and gifts.
So your purpose is to serving humanity with your God given talents and gifts. We are helping people move from ordinary to extraordinary. Along this journey you too will be lifted and transformed.
To help you identify your purpose, here are some questions you can ask yourself:
1. What is my gift and talent? It has to be something you enjoy doing. You can be another singer, songwriter, health coach etc. When you honor and truly love yourself, you will be unique in your own way. (Mine is teaching and coaching. I have skills of organizing classes. I have friendship skills.)
2. How can I help the world with this talent/gift? You don’t need to come up with all the answers, just some ideas and solutions would do for now. More pathways will open up the further you get. (My hope is that I can help people find fulfillment and become the extraordinary person they were meant to be.)
3. Do I feel God’s love for me? Feeling God’s love is important because we become connected to the most powerful source of energy, intelligence and wisdom. That power will help you give you guidance and clarity. You will know you are on the right track then you start thinking of others as you understand yourself more. So you love others like you love yourself. The greater the love you have for yourself, the greater the love you have for others. The love for yourself grows when you receive God’s love for you into your heart. This is why loving God is the 1st commandment and loving others like you is the 2nd commandment.
‘Active Faith’ helps you focus on your purpose
Once you’ve identified your purpose and it is burning inside of you, it is time to allow that fire to create motion. Sometimes we think we’ve got the purpose down and yet we still can’t seem to move forward as fast as we would like, it may be we haven’t fully connected to God enough to clarify your purpose. Keep working on it. As you work on it, you may want to identify fears and inhibitions. You can decide to move out of the fear and into faith. Here is a list of fear emotions and faith emotions:
Use essential oils and affirmations to help you move through the darkness of fear and into the light of faith.
Another way to help is to pick some physical actions that help you show your own true level of faith.
1) Vision Board
Our mind thinks in pictures. Find pictures of things to represent your purpose and calling. Place these pictures on a poster or cork board. This is your vision board, a representation of your vision (or in this case a purpose and calling board). Put your vision board somewhere you can see.
2) Choose to be Proactive
• Release the need to blame people and situations. Blame gives away your power.
Use Fennel essential oil: “I accept full responsibility for my thoughts, actions and life.”
Use Ginger essential oil: “I release all resistance to feeling strong and powerful.”
Use Spikenard essential oil: “I am grateful for challenges. I see them as opportunities for growth and change.”
• Release need to control the outcome or be willful. The “How” is God’s job. Your part is to discover the “what” and some of the whys. Tell the universe what you want and let go of the details.
Use Geranium essential oil: “I trust the universe/God. Let it happen in the right time for me and my higher good.”
• Decide to be a problem solver. Before you present any concern to your upline (or anyone else), come up with a few solutions and show that you’ve tried to solve it on your own. Your downline will do the same as you as you set the good example. This helps you own your own power and keeps you focused on your purpose. Because it is your calling, you will have solutions given to you. As a leader, I love to help others, but I don’t want to rob people of their power.
Here are some examples:
1. Instead of “Jade, I don’t know the number for dōTERRA customer service.” Say, “Jade, do you know where else I can go to get the number of dōTERRA customer service? I have looked online and in my papers.”
2. Instead of “Jade, my husband is so unsupportive.” Say, “Jade, do you know what else I can do to help me feel more support from my husband? I tried to support him in his interests and used Geranium on myself.”
3. Instead of “Jade, dōTERRA should…….” Say, “Jade, I emailed dōTERRA services my feedback on …. In the meantime, I will…..to solve that problem.”
4. Instead of “Jade, my [team mate’s name] isn’t doing anything, isn’t returning my calls….” Say, “Jade, I prayed about [team mate’s name], and think I should do this [team mate’s name], do you have any other suggestions?”
• Be humble & happy. Humility is about being willing to change the way God sees fit. Note: It has nothing to do with money or financial state. It involves love and trust in God.
Use Wild Orange & Balance essential oil blend: “I easily allow God to bless me with plenty of money, time, friends, joy, pleasure into come into your life.”
Check your happy meter often. When you are happy, you are focused on your noble purpose. When you are not happy, you are distracted, prideful, fearful etc. Here is your chance to change that. The more you do this the easier it is to stay happy longer and live a fulfilling life always focusing on your noble purpose!
